It’s been a challenging year, to say the least.
It’s started pretty well with a lovely duathlon in Wendover – organized by Tough Runner UK – and a 6th place overall.
Then Covid19 came around and events started to be postponed, in 2020 at best, or canceled. The problem is that if your season is already written in stone, postponed events in the same year aren’t that good as they will overlap with your long-planned races.
Anyway, the season progressed with a new way of competing: virtual races. I’ve done a few IronMan virtual events, the Leeds virtual Olympic duathlon, and the July and August Trifecta Tough Runner challenges. With a mix of full indoor sessions (treadmill and turbo trainer), indoor and outdoor sessions, and full outdoor sessions. I was already a Zwift user. But discovered Rouvy, which has some features Zwift hasn’t, but probably not enough for me to switch, or pay for both.
Covid19 pandemic slew down, events started again, and got very optimistic for the end of the season when I took part in the Run Reading half marathon in September. My last race of the season, The Ballbuster Duathlon in November was still game on and I was really looking forward to finishing the event (it got stopped half in 2019 due to poor weather conditions).
Unfortunately, the organizers decided otherwise and the email I’ve been dreading to received landed in my mailbox last night:
We are sorry to let you know that sadly we will be cancelling Ballbuster 2020.
We have been working hard with various authorities behind the scenes to help bring the sport back, and although it’s great that some events are now planned to take place this year, we are unfortunately not confident enough in delivering a safe event for you to take the risk in November.
We are sure you are as disappointed as we are and we hope to see you back next year.
We will be automatically refunding your entry fee and you should see this money back in your account by Human Race Ltd by the Monday 30th November at the latest.
Again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and we hope you will join us at Ballbuster in 2021.
The Human Race Team
