Note: all training sessions are canceled until further notice as per our chairman’s latest update. We’ve worked on ways to provide virtual training for week 27.

From our Coach Andy

Hi everyone, I hope you have had a good week?
I’ve struggled a bit with motivation in the last week, not only with some of my training but also the drain of working online – it has been good to use running as a break (tech-free!). If you are finding things hard at the moment, take the pressure off and just enjoy something. Tuesday yoga is a great way to destress, relax, and have a great stretch and catch up.
We are pleased to announce the start of spin sessions this week. After a successful trial last Wednesday, Julia and Phil are kindly opening up their garden to 2 groups of 6 on Wednesday (weather permitting). This is a great opportunity to get outside, do some great exercise, and do something together (at a 2m distance). Last week we ran 2 groups, with the time between to wipe down the bikes, there is the option to do spin/brick with laps of the garden. Sign up if you would like to come along. Spaces are limited, so please update it asap if you need to change your plans.
Lake swimming continues to be popular, with many members now taking advantage of the warmer water and nicer weather. Remember to sign up early as slots are filling fast. Also please contact the lake if you need to cancel your swim so others can take your slot.
Open water swim set for this week: Use the big loop and swim continuously 1000-2000m, using the buoys change pace at each one [light, medium, hard, medium, light]
light = easy/recovery pace, medium = race pace, hard = above race pace
BTS Virtual Event: Our partners at Bray Lake have kindly offered for us to use the facilities at Bray to host a virtual club event. A number of people have signed up to join in, but there are a few spaces left. If you would like to take part in either the Olympic or 70.3 distance events, then use the poll below. We will be allocated swim slots, so start when you like and other members will be around you. The bike route will be out to Drift Road and a few laps, passing each other to give encouragement, then back to Bray to run laps of the lake, again to cheer each other on. The final details and routes will be confirmed later in the week.

Please continue to follow advice on hygiene, social distancing, and lockdown procedures:
  • Continue to train, as long as you display no symptoms of any illness
  • Be aware of the training stress on your body. It is not advised to increase training load or stress at this time – if in doubt, keep training but don’t over do it
  • Exercise and training are advised as a way to maintain mental health, we are used to it and rely on it as a stress relief
  • Eat healthily and maintain a balanced diet, especially when training
  • Don’t train or meet up in large groups – we still have to follow social distancing guidelines
Have a great week.
