Note: all training sessions are canceled until further notice as per our chairman’s latest update. We’ve worked on ways to provide virtual training for week 22.
From our Coach Andy
Happy Bank Holiday everyone!
I really hope you have all enjoyed the weekend, even if a little windy at times! There has been some excellent BTS virtual racing over the last few days for all those taking part in the BTS virtual events; riders out on the route on Saturday, an (extremely hilly) online meetup on Zwift then socially distanced running today around the Thames and Jubilee – at the same time others were having a dip in the Jubilee as well! Great to be out and about and to see some familiar faces in real life, rather than through a screen. We have until 5 pm tomorrow to finish your virtual race and upload your events to Strava or email to me and we will collate results. Having recommended cycle and run routes was a great way to train and see club mates while still adhering to social distancing, we will look to do similar routes in the coming weeks.
I have been thinking this week about how we are using our normal commute time each morning, for those of us who are still not back at work? Lie in, or get an early session in? I have always said the early morning is my favorite time, so make the most of the early sun and quiet roads to get a short ride or run – just an easy 40-minute ride or 5k run is a great way to start the day. Go tech-free and just enjoy the moment!
This week we will have a break from S&C Monday as I will be completing the 90k bike for the BTS virtual 70.3 and others are taking a well-earned rest day. I would recommend some easy stretching. We will aim to run Spinning on Wednesday, but we are approaching that time of year when being outside is far more appealing. Look out for details online of cancellation.
BTS Zoom Quiz – Thursday @ 8pm
Linda has organized an online social quiz night for this week at 8 pm. Check your email and Facebook for Zoom details.
Families and homes are welcome to all join in and play together, or turn up solo and be part of a team.
Just log on and join us, it is BYOB 😂 and snacks!

Please continue to follow advice on hygiene, social distancing, and lockdown procedures:
- Continue to train, as long as you display no symptoms of any illness
- Be aware of the training stress on your body. It is not advised to increase training load or stress at this time – if in doubt, keep training but don’t overdo it
- Exercise and training are advised as a way to maintain mental health, we are used to it and rely on it as a stress relief
- Eat healthily and maintain a balanced diet, especially when training
- Don’t train or meet up in groups, 1:1 is allowed
Enjoy the sessions we are trying to set up this week. Please send me any feedback or useful links to try.
